'A Breath of Fresh Air' for UNF Music

The UNF Opera Ensemble was established in 2006 shortly after the appointment of Dr. Krzysztof Biernacki as the Head of Applied Voice at the UNF Department of Music. Comprised and cast entirely from undergraduate voice majors, the UNF Opera Ensemble recently was able to produce and successfully perform UNF’s first fully staged opera production, Dido & Aeneas by Henry Purcell.

Ensemble to Perform First Opera On Campus
Spinnaker

Henry Purcell's 17th-century opera titled "Dido & Aeneas" has been performed in theatres throughout the English-speaking world for more than 200 years. The opera will make its first appearance in Jacksonville on April 20th, at the University of North Florida's Robinson Theatre.

The production marks the first opera ever performed at UNF and will be put on by the UNF Opera Ensemble.

Ensemble Brings Made-for-TV Opera to UNF Stage
Spinnaker

Amahl and the Night Visitors was the first opera made specifically for television in the United States and was played annually on Christmas Eve for 15 years. Although the opera rarely finds its way onto TV screens anymore, it is still considered a Christmas classic on the stage.
