UNF Opera Ensemble
NEWS - July 2010 - UNF Opera Ensemble is scheduled to perform Magic Flute by W. A. Mozart at the European Music Academy in Czech Republic. Performances are booked at the Mozart Theater in Prague and City Theater in Teplice.
The UNF Opera Ensemble was established in 2006 shortly after the appointment of Dr. Krzysztof Biernacki as the Head of Applied Voice at the UNF Department of Music.
Comprised and cast entirely from undergraduate voice majors, the UNF Opera Ensemble focuses on skill development, stagecraft, and theatrical experience through production and performance of complete, vocally suitable operatic works with orchestra.
UNF Opera Ensemble also engages in community outreach, student recruitment, and promotion of operatic arts in the community. This young group has already performed numerous concerts of operatic excerpts and took part in various community events. Being able to produce and successfully perform UNF’s first fully staged opera production, Dido & Aeneas by Henry Purcell, amounted to a truly monumental achievement for this young ensemble.
In 2007 - 2008 season UNF Opera Ensemble produced fully staged productions of Amahl and the Night Visitors by Gian-Carlo Menotti as well as Giacomo Puccini’s Suor Angelica. Most recent production included Hansel and Gretel by Engelbert Humperdinck which was received with great response from the audience and strong critical acclaim. In our 2009-10 season the UNF Opera ensemble presented The Magic Flute.
